Wordpress does not connect anymore

If I navigate to the wordpress front page, I get the message
"Error establishing a database connection"
Cpanel still shows the SQL database active. Was there a sort-of-recent change to SQL settings?
Why else might this happen?

Note: the remainder of the site (html, css, JS) still functions normally.

Is this right after installation? Try creating a MySQL user using the connection info set on WP.

I've been running the server for years. It quit last week.

From the Cpanel MySQL control panel, I did a checkDB on the database. I get an error message.
Error from MySQL query: DBD::mysql::db do failed: Unknown database

Something has happened to the database.

It was probably on or before November 29, which was the last time I updated the front page.

Was the SQL server moved to a different host? My config points Wordpress to "localhost", which has worked for years.

"localhost" was - and still is - the only MySQL database host you can use on x10hosting's free-hosting servers

Any additional help on this subject? My SQL database has apparently vanished from the server. Any chance of retrieving it?
