I believe MUDs might be a relatively low resource intensive game server to host. For those who aren't familiar with them, they are basically text based games that people can play on. There is a pretty large community of this type of gamers that can be found over the net.
As far as resources go, a small one wouldn't even take up a few megabytes of space, and depending on how efficient the code is, probably a smaller amount of RAM and much less CPU power would be needed.
I think even if game hosting for any of the larger, and more resource intensive games falls through, it might be worth it to consider having a MUD host - I believe it can generate a good deal of traffic, and quickly, as there are consolidated forums and resource sites, such as
www.mudconnect.com, that a single ad for free hosting would probably lead to a pretty large turn out.
