I've found sometimes zipped files just don't work and you have to use a raw sql file. The location can be a factor too - flash drives generally don't work, but that maybe a transfer speed issue.

For a WordPress site with the UpdraftPlus auto back up plug uin, manual back ups work fine, but scheduled back ups don't get triggered. This requires the WP scheduler to work and that's dependent on the host allowing loopback connections. Is this functionality enabled in a free account?

This is actually a wordpress issue, not a hosting issue. It presents itself in different ways but all seem related to the auto update to v3.8.1 which may be leading to corrupted image meta data in the database. If that rings any bells, you can find a fix here...

In one case, I confirmed this was a problem with the auto update to 3.8.1 borking image meta data in the database and preventing the image resize routine from running. Nothing to do with the host. There's a plug in fix listed here which worked in this case...

Can't say much without seeing the subject site but in the case of a WordPress site for example, the site url and home page url have to be recorded correctly in the database (under wp-options). WordPress does that for you when you set up the site (wp-admin/install.php) - not sure about other...

Yes, after changing nameservers, just go to add on domains in cpanel and add the domain. If using WordPress or other cms and you didn't change the url in use, you can make that adjustment with phpmyadmin in the database.
