I would recommend not using a GUI if you want to run a gameserver. Unlike a windows server, there is little use with a vnc setup, as most of the configuration is editing files. So having Xorg and some other window management(gnome and kde are the worse in terms of resource usage i think...)...

I don't believe his server is being effected by a move. Its really slow, but theres nothing i can really do other than try to contact one of the admins who all seem to be away atm

I believe the reasons Ad-Enhanced was discontinued was because it was to much work to make sure every site kept an advertisement visible. I think they should keep something like Ad-Enhanced, but on a request only basis.

Check the permissions. If you have apache set up to run as a user like www-data, but you do all your work as root, then all of the files are going to be accessible by root, not www-data. I would suggest using su {user who owns the site} and doing any site related work that way.
