It sounds alright to me. As long as you keep up with getting permission from the copyright owners, you should be fine. You also might want to stay on top of informing the staff of the permissions you've been granted because otherwise they won't know you are allowed to post copyrighted material.

Yeah, it's definitely possible to use files instead of SQL (SQL uses files itself) but SQL is so highly optimized for the task, anything you program will not be nearly as quick.

What I personally would do, is have your friend do the sign up, you do the work, and then give it back to your friend. I don't think you could cover every genre. There are probably over a hundred if you get really picky.

That's the lines I added in my code. You need to check if the connection is successful before changing databases. You need to check if the database change is successful before querying it. You have to check if the query is successful before using the result.

Can't you have your friend create it and then you set up everything? I don't think you will be suspended for this either way, as long as you aren't using both accounts for yourself.

You use semicolons if you're sending a group of queries. I don't think it's the problem, I just take them out because they don't help the query. Did you put the error checking in? That should tell you what's wrong.
