In the simplest form I always use manual, using notepad++, BUT when it comes to things like a forum, a blog or something that would require a bit more scripted pages then plain html, I always look for a good, free one that I can use. (I simply dunno how to code those things)

problem with forced posting is you'd end up with a lot useless posts/threads, saying something like, ok I was here this months as well. personally I rarely post, but that is mainly because I don't find a reason to do so, ie I got nothing to add to what are already said on a specific topic.

I can't say I found it confusing at all, except for maybe the forum sign up being separate, but then on the other hand I might have signed up for forum before hosting for the simple reason of lurking and seeing what others said about the service...

Have a good site where people want to come back and want to stick around. A good site might get mentioned as a good place for "whatever your content is about" on someones personal blog make sure you spread the word in as many places you can (ie forum sigs, communitys), exchange links/ad banners...

My traffic, that is a bit to low to be a statistical certainty, comes more from direct traffic or from referring sites (links on forums and such mainly) for one of my domains, the other comes more from search engines (at least acording to google analytics) so I'd say both are important ways to...
