You would need to use an x10 subdomain unless you register your own domain through a registrar.

You can't just add any domain you want (aside from free x10 subdomains), you need to pay to register it through a registrar.

Is your domain registered through a registrar? If so, you either need to add DNS records through the registrar or change the nameservers to ns1.x10hosting.com and ns2.x10hosting.com

In theory it shouldn’t be possible and that the system will likely reject it unless you’re the one adding a subdomain of the domain you own as a domain. With that in mind, say you own domain.com. It wouldn’t be worth another user adding sub.domain.com as you’d be in control of the DNS records...
