there is a .htaccess in that directory. You also did have file permissions wrong. I sorted the redirect loop you had in your .htaccess and the file permissions, so the site should now work properly. You might need to clear browser cache though.

You'll need to have text/plain as content-type for it to work, mail server silently eats the mail otherwise.

You are correct, you can not remove them yourself. Further more, it is a known problem on your server atm, which boils up to that we most likely will need to add them through the backend. I assume you want them as addon domains? Any specific folders they should point towards?
