Um... I have been using filezilla the last few days and I am still having the same problem. Is there a setting I should be checking? I cannot access my website anymore. I might as well switch to some other provider if this keeps on happening. I was considering upgrading to the paid plan, but it does not seem like it would be worth it if it is going to be cutting out all the time.

It is "FREE" hosting for a reason, you can't expect to get something for FREE and have premium quality. I suggest you download a copy of your site to your desktop and edit the local version of the site then upload the revisions via filezilla instead of editing straight from there and having many connections open therefore possibly getting you blocked from the server. (Many web hosts will firewall you for having too many connections no matter paid or free.)

That is the point. I have been using filezilla like you said. Also, the free service should at least be a representation of the quality of service for the premium users, except with less features. That is the whole point of a free service isn't it? To get customers to see how good your service is and then get them to buy the paid version? As it is, if this is how everyones service is I cannot see why anyone would want to buy the premium service. The fact is that half the time I have been trying to access this system it has blocked me out. Also, I have a friend who has a different hosting site and he has allowed me to ftp to it several times. I do not use filezilla with his site and I have absolutely no problems. I am not one to complain... but this service is getting pretty spotty.

I'm sorry, but x10hosting's free service is not a free "trial" of any sort to entice people to purchase premium hosting. x10 has been offering free hosting since 2004 and only started premium a few years ago. Not sure why people keep thinking that free hosting is a trial. You do have to realize that the free hosting is run by volunteers where as paid has 24/7 staff.

Have you been able to change any of your files since the recent migration to the new servers?

I'm slightly confused by this comment, considering you waited only 5 minutes for a response. Our premium service is staffed by 24/7 support, whereas on free hosting the support system is run by community members and volunteers, such as myself. We aren't available 24/7 - we are helping the free hosting side of things in our free time. We have lives too. I would also like to briefly mention that free hosting is definitely not a "free trial" of premium hosting, or what it is like on premium hosting.

This is related to the current server migrations. Please see this topic and the status blog for an explanation and updates.

The actual 500 Internal Server Error issues are caused because the migrations are still in progress. Our administrators are working on fixing a few issues, and cPanel occasionally becomes unavailable due to the fact our systems are still trying to re-create and migrate thousands of accounts as quickly as possible.

This should be fixed soon once the migrations are complete, and an update will hopefully be posted shortly on our status blog explaining the current status.

Some people believe free hosting is a "free trial" of paid hosting, but this is simply not the case. We have tens of thousands of accounts on free hosting, meaning that each free hosting server ends up hosting thousands. On premium, this is not the case - premium servers have much less people on each, and premium servers are subject to less abuse. We also employ a 99.9% Uptime Guarentee SLA on premium hosting, which means in the extremely unlikely event there is downtime, we partially refund customers based on uptime. On free hosting, there is no SLA.

We're doing our best to keep everyone updated, but I really don't see how there is anything more to update you with. We are attempting to migrate tens of thousands of accounts to a brand new platform, and it takes quite a while for the server to finish transferring and reconfiguring each individual account. Our admins are also doing their best to fix any problems that occur in the process.

I greatly appreciate everyone's understanding of the matter and hope the migrations will be complete shortly.

I've put up a quick message on the status blog explaining the issue slightly, though sorry I could not provide any more information on the matter.

This is one of the problems with free hosting. Free hosting should not be considered a "free trial" of the premium services, due to how incredibly different they are. Since the hosting is offered free, I hope you can understand the amount of abuse that is directed towards our free hosting servers. Premium hosting has a 99.9% uptime guarentee, so in the extremely unlikely event something like this were to happen on a premium server, customers are refunded a certain amount.

Hello,

As far as I'm aware, x10's free hosting has very good uptime, especially considering it is free hosting.

You also mentioned that we should should put up a notice saying there may occasionally be server issues, but, considering this hosting is completely free, surely it is common sense that free hosting in general attracts lots of abuse?

Additionally, I really don't think you should consider free hosting as a "free trial" for premium hosting. Free hosting servers get put under much more abuse compared to x10Premium, plus we even offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee on premium for customers' peace of mind.

I agree with @bdistler in saying that if you need to host a site where uptime must be 100%, you shouldn't really be hosting it on free hosting.

As for the issue itself, I am currently not seeing any problems on the link you provided.

@mattx - Perhaps you should ask your question in another topic rather than just complain it isn't working?

Thank you,

Hello,

A few days ago there were some issues with the DNS networking on the free hosting server, "Level". I looked up your account and it seems you may have been affected by this issue. This has since been resolved, so you shouldn't be running into these DNS issues anymore. :)

I would just like to add as well that I'm not so sure that free hosting is a suitable "free trial" for premium hosting. Free hosting servers are under much more pressure and much more abuse. Considering the hosting is offered 100% free, I'm sure you can understand the number of abusive users this attracts.

Thank you,

Oh, my bad. I did not realize this was not another marketing ploy... There are so many of those these days. Anyway, it is still a little annoying to sit down to the computer to work on my site only to find that I am locked out again. I wish there was some way we could fix this.

Hi,

If you're using FileZilla, there are options to prevent this happening. In your Settings, in "Transfers", please make sure "Maximum simultaneous transfers" is set to 1.

Thank you
