At the main page it reads (concerning the free hosting):
"No Advertisements Required!"

But when you sign up for the free hosting, you must sign this:
"We may require avertisements to be placed on your website."

So what's the true answer?

Also, I'd appreciate to know if
  • .htaccess files are enabled for the free hosting
  • whether there are user restrictions, e.g. blocking browsers without referrer or with certain User-Agent fields

You do not need advertisments if you are on a ad-free account (Which is what you have).

You can place the advertisments on the website if you'd like to upgrade your storage space and bandwith.

.htaccess is enabled.

No restrictions that I know of.

the true answer is that the account type you automatically get when signing up is "ad-free" so no ads required.

However if you want better features (more space for instance) you can get that by putting ads on your site and upgrading to an ad enhanced package.

.htaccess are enabled

about the user restrictions I have no idea, I have never looked into that. Can't check either as I recently upgraded to a paid account.
