I still don't encounter any problems with free antivirus and antispyware programs (AVG + Windows Defender), but I guess if you want some good protection, try Norton 360. Has everything: antivirus, antispy, custom firewall, and tons more. They rebuilt the GUI, rather than adding on to the 200x editions of Norton, so it hogs a lot less resources than its predecessors.

i stay as far away from Norton as i can. its way to controlling and most of the installations iv had to fix/uninstall had quarentined themselfs. id go with a pro version of Avast on with Xoftspy as the spyware killer, if i was going to install a antivirus on my pc. i currently only use them if i have a problem and am to lazy to use hijackthis.

I can't say that i'm particularly well versed, but Norton has always worked fine for me. I'm running the 2006 Internet Security version atm.

Since I installed it in early 2004, only had a virus once, which was my fault really for trusting P2P programs. And its blocked numerus attacks and viruses that i've known about, and countless more that I didn't.

Plus, it automatically blocked some of the annoying advertising URLs; so i don't often have to view all the adverts on sites.

I'd say you couldn't go wrong getting their latest Norton 360 package.

I have never had a problem with Nortons. I run Security Suite 2007 edition and it runs completly fine for me.

Before that we had McAfee 2007 but we switched as my dad was getting fed up of McAfee getting in the way of everything.

I have never had a virus whilst running Nortons and it blocks everything I want it too, so i would say that you couldnt go far wrong with Nortons.

My vote: You.

No really; the best anti-virus and internet security is the user, so long as they know what they're doing (sadly, thats probably the reason why most AV and IS companies exist - people have no idea what they're doing XD )

But if you insist, nod32 + avg + some form of firewall (heck, even the windows default one isn't half bad when put together with a decent AV). Just remember: the best IS/AV you'll find is you. Don't download from untrustworthy sources, don't click attachments in emails you didn't expect attachments in, the works. Doesn't hurt to have something as an emergency safety net though :)

You do have a point about the best defense is yourself... So many times viruses are due to trigger happy fingers on those mail attachments...

Anyway, I currently on a Trend Micro and Zonealarm Combination and it worked quite well for sometime already... Althought the free ones like AVG and AntiVIR isn't that bad.

Used to use sygate firewall but it has since been acquired by symantec

I have McAfee AV and Firewall and it works fine. :)

Yeah. Even if you have the best AV in the world, it is you who have to protect your system the best. Just be careful what you download and from where. That's half work done. The other half is to update your AV regularly and also perform scans of your computer from time to time. :)

definitely Kaspersky Internet Security. Reason?
I. Fast
II. Effective
III. Relative small size
IV. Relative small price
