How about a good Firewall program? ( It has to be free, I can't afford anything )

I am getting the AVG AV Free Edition and AVG Anti-Spyware ... I just need a good firewall program.
I do have a router, but currently, its a friend's ( as we have their laptop hooked up, is why we are borrowing it ) ...

I don't know about any good firewall programs, but I'd recommend that you DON'T use ZoneAlarm. It has devolved into a bloated piece of crap that constantly pesters you with popups.

The regular Windows Firewall is OK for my purposes, anyway.

For me too.
Against viruses I use Avast, because its offer free solution.
In the past I used to surf without protection, and I hasn't got any viruses.
You just have to follow some rules.
Don't browse with IE, or browser wich uses IE engine.
Never open anything, what you get from a stranger, or from a friend if it wasn't asked.
Watch out for p0rn/serial/hack/etc sites, they have bad habbits.
If something.exe pop up on your face, and ask you to install it, dont do it.
Thats all.

I've been using avast as anti-virus for 3 years now, and haven't had any issues at all with viruses. No firewall software, windows firewall disabled. I use Spybot and Ad-aware to remove spyware though. Also, the web browser I'm using is Opera, though Firefox is fine as well, I guess.

EDIT: And I agree with Tyrael about p0rn/serial/hack sites, they give you literally tons of spyware and the occasional viruses.

(All mentioned software is free)

I personally use Kaspersky Internet Security v6. It works fine for me. I reason I recommend is that its speed is really fast. I got delays on my last computer(laptop) when running Norton's.
BitDefender has always been at the 1st on many rankings. I have tried it some time ago. It was fast as well. However, I would just stick on Kaspersky.

Yes I too use KIS (Kaspersky Internet Security) has the best detection, low on system resources, complete with rootkit scan, antivirus, Firewall, etc. Does it all w/ out "false positives"

And no offense but Bitdefender is garbage....very low on heuristic detection!

Even though I use Norton, the best all-in-one is ZoneLabs, while the best anti-spyware is Webroot Spy Sweeper. If you can't afford anything, the best free anti-virus is avast! Home Edition, and the best free anti-spyware is Spybot S&D. These are from reading hundreds of reviews, and from personal experience.

I've been using Kasperskt antivirus for about 3 years now, it's done me the best out of every antivirus out there ( I've tried almost every ). Kaspersky has been the most efficient and very user friendly. I download tons of things and I always trust Kaspersky to tell me if its a virus or not. And its been doing me good ever since I found out about it :p.

I use Zonealarm Pro for my firewall it works excellent also.

I use McAfee Enterprise for anti-virus, seems to be pretty reliable but it's shut itself down for a few seconds at random on occasions, and doesn't seem to like updating but would rather use all my CPU :(

Antivirus: Eset NOD32.. its very good and doesn't slow down your system.
Firewall: Zonelabs Zonealarm
AntiSpyware: Spybot search & destroy
i am not too sure about the firewall and the antispyware software but nod32 is probably the best antivirus around.
