I know this might be a stupid question but what does SMF stand for

SMF is not the best free forum software...it still has that stupid yaBBSE and proboards look in the post and forum view...if you want free then go with either IPB 1.3, Burning Board or phpBB...SMf still has alot of design issues to settle...if you want paid go with Burning Board 2, vBulletin, IPB 2, or bbBoard v2 (link: http://www.bbv2.com/)

Normally I prefer Invision Board. Used to be free but now 2.0 needs to pay. Maybe I will just go back to phpBB.

IPB! IPB has a lot of features and I like them all.

vBulletin of cource, doesnt load the server at all, very customizable, good admin cp, overall just easy to use

I currently use PHPBB3 with my halo 2 clan forums. I have no complaints at all. The theme was easy to install, The admin panel is straight forward and easy to navigate. I highly suggest PHPBB3.
