Editing Joomla for ad code?

This is going to be a bit of a silly question, but how do you get the ad code into joomla? I have edited footers, added banners, allsorts but cannot figure it out!

Hey there! This off topic but I was hoping you could help. I have tried everything that I can possibly think of. Anyhow are you able to install extensions on your joomla installation?
