The status page shows that this was fixed about 2 weeks ago, however that was about the time I started having this problem.
I cannot receive email on xo1. Sending mail works correctly.

The error message is:
An error occurred during a connection to xo1.x10hosting.com:995.
Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s).
(Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)

The status page (http://status.x10hosting.com/) shows that this was fixed about 2 weeks ago, however I have not been able to receive email for about 2 weeks.
What do we need to do?

What type of encryption are you using to connect? We require SSL/TLS.

Been using SSL/TLS with normal password for years. Suddenly it stopped working about 2 weeks ago. Finally had time to look into it.

Updated Thunderbird a few days ago to latest and greatest from the Fedora database (31.2.0). This update was supposed to address an SSL issue from October 17th.
About 30 min a go updated the SSL2 package from the Fedora database.

I am still not able to retrieve email from my x10hosting accounts. Here's the rub:
When I use mail.x10hosting.com:995 I get prompted for a password, but it will not accept the password as valid (it has been reset in cpanel, and I CAN login with that password via webmail). When I finally cancel the "bad password" loop I am in, i get an error message in Thunderbird's error console:
Timestamp: 11/10/2014 08:43:44 PM
Error: An error occurred during a connection to xo1.x10hosting.com:995.
Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s).
(Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)
When I use xo1.x10hosting.com:995 I dont get prompted for anything, and the messages that are pending are not downloaded.

Using xo1.x10hosting.com:465 I can send email (and it accepts my password on the first try), but I cannot get the replies to those emails, as described above.

Once again, we have several different forum threads dealing with the same problem:
"Email Not Sending", "Email client can not sync with email server on Secure SSL/TLS Settings configuration", and "Free Hosting: Email Problems" being the most recent.

What should we do?

For the last 3 weeks, I could SEND email from my x10host.com accounts, but not RECEIVE email (using Thunderbird). Now I cannot SEND email either. So the problem is getting worse, not better.
There are several other threads about this, but have had no activity for almost 2 weeks now.
It saddens me that this is the 3rd time that x10hosting's email has proven that it should not be depended on.

Hi,

Please stop spamming this issue on our forums and posting the issue in older topics. It does not make us tend to your problem quicker. ;)

Our outgoing mail filter and incoming mail server appear to be working fine at this time, and I successfully sent an email to my xo1 email account fine. Is this happening to a particular email account? :)

Thank you,

The overall issue with IMAP on xo1 has been resolved, and you should now be able to send and receive mail from thunderbird.

The problem was an oversight from some changes we made to patch against the SSLv3 POODLE bug last month. The SSLv3 Cipher was disabled for the IMAP server, which happens to also be the same cipher for the TLS1.2 encryption algorithm. Disabling this cipher made the server reject any TLS1.2 signatures as well.

Please accept my apologies that it took this long to figure out the issue.

Thank you. Both for the resolution and the explanation. I noticed that Thunderbird actually tried to logon to X10hosting to retrieve email (as it asked me for a password!<grin>), and that was the tipoff that the issue might have been fixed. I will test to be sure

leafypiggy: both send and receive are working now. Sorry about the PITA, but there were a couple of weeks with no feedback that anything was happening.
(still curious about the etymology of your handle)

dead-i: the answer to your question was already in the threads that I was (supposedly) spamming.
(cool avatar, btw)
