My son asked 23 times ( very touching)

An 80 year old man was sitting on the sofa in his house along with his 45 years old highly educated son. Suddenly a crow perched on their window.
The Father asked his Son, What is this?

The Son replied It is a crow.
After a few minutes, the Father asked his Son the 2nd time, What is this?
The Son said Father, I have just now told you Its a crow.
After a little while, the old Father again asked his Son the 3rd time,
What is this?


At this time some expression of irritation was felt in the Sons tone when he said to his Father with a rebuff. Its a crow, a crow.
A little after, the Father again asked his Son for the 4th time, What is this?
This time the Son shouted at his Father, Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again, although I have told you so many times ˜IT IS A CROW. Are you not able to understand this?



A little later the Father went to his room and came back with an old tattered diary, which he had maintained since his Son was born. On opening a page, he asked his Son to read that page. When the son read it, the following words were written in the diary



Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow was sitting on the window. My Son asked me 23 times what it was, and I replied to him all 23 times that it was a Crow. I hugged him lovingly each time h e asked me the same question again and again for 23 times. I did not at all feel irritated I rather felt affection for my innocent child.
While the little child asked him 23 times What is this, the Father had felt no irritation in replying to the same question all 23 times and when today the Father asked his Son the same question just 4 times, the Son felt irritated and annoyed.




So..
If your parents attain old age, do not repulse them or look at them as a burden, but speak to them a gracious word, be cool, obedient, humble and kind to them. Be considerate to your parents. From today say this aloud I want to see my parents happy forever. They have cared for me ever since I was a little child. They have always showered their selfless love on me.
They crossed all mountains and valleys without seeing the storm and heat to make me a person presentable in the society today.
Say a prayer to God. I will serve my old parents in the BEST way. I will say all good and kind words to my dear parents, no matter how they behave.

my parents are both 75+, and memory and comprehension starts to slip. I shall keep this story in mind, it will help me to be patient.

hmmm, the same applies to grandparents too, for those of us who grew up spending time with our grandparents.

reminds me, I will always remember when I was in my twenties going to visit my grandmother in a home, she was not too bad, but the decline was well under way. Anyways, I just walked up to where she was parked in her wheelchair and gave her a hug. She took one look at me and said "Whose kid are you"? :) Out of site, out of mind I guess. When she finally understood, she was very mortified that she asked that question. She's long gone now of course.

funny story, but really kind of sad. A similar thing happened to my great aunt a couple of years ago, she just started losing all her memory, until she recognized no one at all.

We're now seeing the similar thing starting to happen with her younger sister (my grandmother) :(

funny story, but really kind of sad. A similar thing happened to my great aunt a couple of years ago, she just started losing all her memory, until she recognized no one at all.
She died shortly after.
We're now seeing the similar thing starting to happen with her younger sister (my grandmother) :(

A lot of the time, not always but often, it's a matter of "if you don't use it, you lose it". My Dad has always tried to keep his mind occupied by reading and learning, and now in his late 70s his brain works just fine.

But yeah, it can be painful to see a loved one go into decline like that. It's all part of life unfortunately.

It's an unfortunate commentary on our modern society.

I love my grandparents, I am very close to my Grandma on my mothers side. She and I are both thankful that in her old age, she still has her mind. Even when she has trouble with something, though, I always respond patiently.

Good for you! You're lucky though, I used to see my grandparents a lot, then we had to move away, and though we even offered to buy them a house down here, they still won't budge from that 100 year old house they have up in MA. So now we see them less than once a year, when ever they can afford to fly down here.

You do realize that the thread was rather old, last reply on it prior to yours was August last year? In general bumping old threads is considered a bad thing.

Oo. I didn't know that. Most of the forum has something like "Automatic close" where admins think that it's not appropriate to bump old topics. I've seen an open thread with good topic so I've posted. I'm Sorry :(

only place threads get closed is in support sections, in all other sections they are normally kept open, unless there's special circumstances that calls for closing it.
