What determines which server you are put on when you sign up here ? Is it random, alphabetical, based on site name or what ?

When you sign up, they remotely turn on your web cam and use facial recognition software to rate your appearance.
You are rated:
4 -- you should be a model
to
1 -- please take of the Halloween mask
and you are assigned xo1 if you were rated a 1, xo2 if you were rated a 2, etc.

Thats a reasonable explanation, however, that was surely not the case when Neil and Dead-i signed up, or they had a piece of duct tape over their camera lens

I think if you don't have a web cam, rand() get's used.
Or it just assumes that you're ugly and puts you in xo1.
