Isn't English english quite different from American english?

It is in a few ways I think. I know for a fact that in the US we spell Color, "Color", where as in English, they spell it "Colour". That's basically the extent of what I know, but yet again I may be wrong on that front as well.

Right. They've also got different words too. Like their word for lemon is citron.
Their word for truck is lorry. Their word for diaper is nappy. Their word for cookie is biscuit! Those are the only four I know.

3 out of 4 correct. We call them lemons as well. And more & more people in England are saying cookies instead of biscuits now. That's the American world-wide influence for you.

You're right. And "grey" not "gray" etc.

Also when you say "Americans are the greatest" we spell it differently. It should be spelled "The English are the greatest" !

Yeah, that's what it sounds like to me too.

But, I do like grey better than gray. I guess that's personal preference too.

I was trying to remember what it's called when someone Google's their own name. All I can find is "vanity google" & "ego surf" - but those aren't the one I'm thinking of.

Anyone know what it's called? I'm not sure if it's just a UK expression, or used in other countries as well.

There's an expression I've heard used a few times in the past - on TV & places. Someone made it up & it caught on a bit. Not sure how wide-spread though.

I've just found egoogle (an abbreviation of ego-google) which is quite clever, but don't think is the one I'm trying to remember.

Hey!! I've just noticed that those annoying hover-over adverts which got added to all our text seem to have gone. When did this happen (I'm not very observant so could have been weeks ago!) & I wonder if it's permanent?

Perhaps they didn't make enough money. :thefinger

i don't think it will be permanent. I think they will add this again soon. I didn't noticed that we didn't had those hover-over adverts in the new forum design.

Yes, that's what I use, so I've never even seen the ads you're talking about.

Yeah, thanks for reminding me.

I'd put Adblock on my last version of Firefox, but still not got round to it since upgrading to the latest. I keep meaning to, along with a whole range of other useful Ad-ons.

The urgency hasn't really been there, though, because what with Javascript control, & a type of Adblock setting already built into my firewall, I'm managing OK without it.

The way I looked at it, even though the hover-over ads were annoying, if they helped to fund the excellent x10 service I was getting, then I was prepared to live with them (can't say I ever clicked them, though! :tongue: )

Adblock Plus is a great add-on for Firefox. On people who I've moved to Firefox, I've installed Adblock Plus and they were suprised to see how that extension blocked the ads well, made their browsing quicker as well as keep those pesky viruses that I clean out of their computers out as well. I'm using the regular Adblock though, but apparently that doesn't install from the store anymore, unless they fixed it recently.
