What happened to the IRC server?

With the new support page, chat and forums, what happened to the good old IRC chat? Is it still working?

The IRC server is running although it is unofficial for support. People mainly use it as a place to hang out and chat now.

The IRC is fun. Except when I don't pay attention and miss out on all the fun. I also need to find a good IRC client for Mac.
