Last time I had a virus was 2 years ago, it started copying files until the drive was full. Antivirus didn't remove it so i did it the old fashioned way, wish i remembered it's name but my memory isn't that good.

No longer my problem though, i've been using mac since then and even though it is not bullet proof, it is hard to get it infected (for us who have common sense).

Still i agree that, when using a windows pc, having ubuntu installed on the side is a good idea.

The worst virus I every had, is one I don't even know the name of. I didn't know much about computers back then, and I used the same computer without any protection and constant downloads for about two years before I got a virus that really made me learn to format :D
It made the system restore, task manager and the registry editor fail. General slowness to, probably a Trojan.

Just recently after I formatted, I had a virus infection from some Trojan that was downloading other viruses. I am disappointed that I had about 8 viruses in the same temporary folder by the time Kaspersky picked one up, and there was three other in the folder undetected. Some rootkits, Trojans and viruses.

Another one I had was a virus that built itself into my shell. After I killed it I got a startup error, so I removed it with the "Hackthis" tool.

I have had a lot of viruses =)

I've had the flu last week and that put me out for a while...,:drool:
lol, not that kind of virus :p.

I can't remember. I get very mild ones that are tied to Java once in a while, but nothing that I notice ;)

Once though, one of the computers were hacked and there were a bunch of files in the Kazaa shared folder (I don't use Kazaa and despise it). They were a bunch of fake Brittney Spears Porn files... Lucky me, I was accused of downloading them... :'( _THE_ most awkward scared moment of my life...

I used to notice before I finally set up my router to filter out ads on my connection, we used to get ads that would download Java files to our PCs which had viruses attached to them. Good thing I had JRE disabled and up to date antivirus at the time. :)

Hey!

Err, worst ever virus...

Well, in my case, it has to be the wierd 'Internet Explorer Will not Search For anything' virus. I happened to get this virus by searching on google, apparently it downloaded itself - wierd?! Anyhow, it does not allow me to connect to the internet via IE, although the internet connection is working fine on the other PC's in the household, even on my iPod touch!!!

It then proceeded, when it eventually let me onto it, to adding tags onto my google searches, sexual natured ones :L. This p*ssed me off, as my searches were logged by the 'rents. How to explain to non-computer users, hey?

Then, if this was not enough, it refused to let me boot. BSOD anyone?

Also, I get this wierd message on my PC (XP) when i boot. Something along the lines of 'Boot.ini is not valid', yet the PC boots up perfectly. Anyone fix?

Regards,

My girlfriend was online the other day and infected our PC with some type of spyware, which is pretty much the same thing as a virus if not worse... I haven't been able to remove it from the computer and everywhere I search for help just wants me to download spyware software and pay for it, which i'm not doing. The spyware is called Antivirus 360, she got into something and said a bunch of boxes popped up saying she needed to fix errors, well she clicked on it and now were infected. Can't really blame her, she doesn't know any better.

Anyone had any experience with this one or know where I can get a free spyware removal program? I'd hate to have to reformat but looks like I might....

The worst virus I got was....

The kind of virus that blocked the usage of browsers (I had IE back then).
At the same time, I had no antivirus or could install one. It kept using 100% CPU and I had to manually terminate the virus from Task Manager. It was almost impossible to do anything. So I just had to format hard drive.

Hmm... the worst virus I ever got was nasty. I got it through school and it deleted my autorun.inf file. Then when I booted my Linux box up at home I saw it, laughed at it for a bit and deleted it.

I lost my autorun.inf file :'(

Not as if it works in Linux.

The second worst virus I used to have was WINDOWS. Egh. It totally took over my computer and it stopped working :(

The worst virus I got was "New folder". In every Folder of my PC a exe file named "New Folder" created.

When I delete it. It come back again. My antivirus don`t tell me that it is a virus.

Now I solved it myself :p
