Ladies and gentlemen, I always believed that it's okay to have the Cable internet, but that is only if you have a higher demand for software/movies/ect. You would only want a connection just fast enough to load up webpages, making Cable more expensive in a month than DSL. That's what I think.

Oh, and STAY AWAY FROM HUGHESNET! Their "limited bandwidth" system is stupid!

Re: Whats your Speed?

Speedtest.net tends to work slow here a lot (sometimes it's fast, but the servers never max my connection out. Heck, at my school's T3 line which runs at 45Mbps/45Mbps, the closest servers never go above 6Mbps on the download, even during the summer), but here's my results according to www.speakeasy.net/speedtest . I have a DSL connection.

Download Speed: 7271 kbps (908.88 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 792 kbps (99 KB/sec transfer rate)

I get this speed all the time :)

Re: Whats your Speed?

I think mine is the lousiest on the whole of x10. A 128 kbps DSL connection.

128Kbps? How far away from the feed are you, or is that the package you're paying for?

Re: Whats your Speed?

Before today we were made to suffer a year of dial-up connection; due to the cheap way the phone lines from the exchange had been laid out. It's all been fixed up now, and I'm finally back on my broadband connection (1.5mbps).

Re: Whats your Speed?

It could be ISDN :). Otherwise, they do have DSL speeds that slow, mainly for people who are REALLY far away from where the DSL signal/DSLAM is located (4 Miles ADSL, 6 Miles ADSL2, 8+ miles ADSL2+), or just use their internet for light things or don't want faster but slightly more expensive internet.

Not sure whether this is an error, or whether it's my ISP. I USE DSL!!!
