i would suggset using a forum, CMS, or another previously made login system, rather than make your own, due to the fact that security can be compromised by bad code
it is localhost, so just leave it like as
as for the latter,
put this in a PHP script
echo 'register_globals = ' . ini_get('register_globals') . "\n";
http://nz2.php.net/manual/en/function.ini-get.php
well you just make a post here like you did, saying you want to cancel your account.
one of the community advocates or mods or admins will come by and escalate your topic to a ticket and and admin will read it, say some magic words and poof your account vanishes.*
*most of this is real
right now Corey is working on the DB and phpmyadmin. so thus some breakage may happen, and in this case it could be possible that it was Corey's fault xD. but hopefully he will fix it soon.
well if that is disabled, then there is nothing much I can do, other than get an admin to see this. they might have a valid reason to disable it, or it got disabled in the middle of them working on something
either way, I escalated it to a ticket so that an admin will see it sooner.
Re: Access MySQL from x10hosting
try "localhost" as the server
also you can read about why mysql and phpmyadmin have been acting up the past few days here:

I like the idea of having backup-ed mysql databases. and you're right most sites that are running a CMS, forum, or any other mysql-driven website don't usually update their html that often, since everything is stored in mysql.
so im one for daily mysql backups, plus im too lazy to do my own =)

mysql is being worked on due to a failure in the PHPMyAdmin
it should be done by the end of the week
in order to work on PHPMyAdmin, Corey had to take the MySQL server offline.
