because you can not have '*' in a URL so when you sign up, they do allow special character in your display name, but to make it so that you have a link to your profile, they have to replace the special character with another character that is allowed in the URL in this case '-'

There is no current fix right now, we just have to wait until Corey finds a solution to the problem. All Free-Hosting users (as far as I know) are having this problem, so you're not the only one. Time will tell us.

simple answer: yes. you can go into cPanel > Parked Domain and add yours there, just make sure nameservers are all setup you are only allowed 3 Parked Domains though.
