I'd start by looking at your expenditure. Needing another £~400, needing a second job, and having loans from friends/family/etc means you're spending too much! On what is the bulk of your money being spent on? Can it be cut back?

I believe the impact on using Google with a white or black background is negligable, because it's not as though anyone sits there looking at it for hours and hours on end. Utilising the power saving facilities offered, such as turning the monitor and HDD's off after 10 minutes (*) etc would...

Would it be a good idea to make News & Announcements, Server Alerts etc forums so only mods and admins can post there? It's kinda difficult to keep track of what's going on with regards to issues like MySQL when there are so many posts going on about peoples troubles.

I know it's a long shot, but is there a way to install a game on my desktop computer and play it remotely on my laptop connected to the home network? Not over the internet as that would be nasty! I was thinking something along the lines of a VNC set up but I don't think they work with games...
