    I have never really understood why FTP in Finder on a Mac only supports reading, it is likely from the past when they were trying to push AFP instead. If you want to write, you will need an FTP client like Flow, my personal favourite.

    Probably overuse or something. Maybe people were having it auto-connect when they turned their computer on, which will just eat up server resources for no reason. Either way, there was something there that made the admins decide it was doing more harm than good.
