    Any Chess Players here?

cool, well we can play online if you like. I like gameknot.com. It's not realtime and you can move at your convenience. If you like, set up an account and PM me your id, I'll let you know what mine is and we'll play a game. As for the project, I can't see how you could contribute without at...

    Any Chess Players here?

It's a great game, I've played all my life. If any of you want to talk chess, or maybe play some "postal style" internet chess at gameknot.com, let me know. I'm also interested in finding someone who is into chess and Java programming who would like to collaborate on my programming project...

    Bing

kinda sounds like another Microsoft attempt to dumb things down. I think this one will probably go the way of Microsoft Bob. I'll be avoiding it like the plague.

Can't finish new account set up

I don't have an answer for you, but the first thing I would do is try is do the registration form with a different browser. Some browsers have trouble with some forms. What browser are you using? Also I would make sure I wasn't blocking cookies from x10hosting.com. good luck.

    History/Geography Trivia

OK, the first European to land in north America was about 500 years before Christopher Columbus. Sometime around 1003, Norse explorer Leif Ericson, son of legendary viking Erik the Red, landed in Labrador, now a part of Canada. He didn't stay long. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leif_Ericson

    noob sql question

duly noted vol7ron and OdeusG, thanks. It doesn't really affect how we do things, I was just curious. For my own interest, your explanations seem to imply that in the mysql_connect statement, localhost refers to a physical machine, and by default the mySQL client looks to a specific port on...

Help me connect to my MYSQL

ok cool, learn something every day! fwiw, I learned from the php/MYSQL tutorial that is in the tutorials section of this forum, where database name is specified in the mysql_select_db as opposed to the connect. regards.

Help me connect to my MYSQL

$username = "acellec_acellec"; // MySQL Username I think there is a problem here. This looks like a database user name. When I do my mysql_connect statements, for $username I just my userid. localhost is just that, localhost. here is my connect statement that I used when I experimented with...

    noob sql question

Ha ha there's no place like 127.0.0.1. funneee. People, notice the redirect on 127.0.0.1 in the previous post. Anyways this would imply that on X10 the mysql_connect statement makes a connection to the same machine the php server lives on. Still wondering about differences between...

    noob sql question

yeah, thanks gomarc. How do you distinguish between application server and database (file) server? I'm thinking "localhost" probably denotes the application server, and probably the actual location of the databases is something only the application server needs to know. Is this a correct way...

    History/Geography Trivia

bump, no-one has taken a stab at this question. p.s. haslam1 I'm still waiting to hear if my "continental drift" is the correct answer for your "what plate movement made the alps?" question.

    Battle of the Browsers

I was gonna say, for me YouTube videos ran smoother in Internet Explorer. This is a biggie for me. It was enough to put me off of Firefox. I played with it for a while, but nothing made much difference. I found that Firefox was better than IE for heavily loaded Facebook pages, and also I...

    Which Forum Software

From a user persepective. I participate in several forums, and the one that has the best performance by far is the one with the footer Powered by phpBB © 2001, 2005 phpBB Group Enhanced with Moby Threads I find the editor pane to be a bit flaky, sometimes it doesn't update properly in real...

Google Chrome 2 30% More Faster

I upgraded the other day, didn't see any huge improvements in speed. A few problems relating to HTML forms were solved, but at least one problem was introduced, whereby it has problems remembering default login info when there is more than one account at the same site. But that's nothing to cry...

Is IE, even 8, just effin broken?

Oh jeez, we're really splitting hairs now. Dude, what are you on about? I already told you I supported Yahoo. Ok so you are crediting Yahoo. That means you think it's a good thing that they decided not to keep up with IE8? Or what exactly? But you don't blame Microsoft? So it was neither...
