    Slow response time

Chopin seems to be especially buggy lately, but the staff are working on it. Stoli was quite bad a week ago, probably just as bad as Chopin now, but it has gotten to about 90% uptime, I'd estimate.

    Sitebuilder menu help!

I thought that the sitebuilder made a backend system for you, that you have to login to access. I think it's at yourdomain.x10hosting.com/admin.php. I can't use it because it will overwrite my current site or I'd test it for you :P

    Email config help

Yeah, I think you're right. I misread this at first, thinking he wanted to use another MX.

    Getting server to send mail

cron will execute a variety of commands and scripts. I don't know what is allowed or what is not allowed. Seeing as mail() in php is disabled by default, I would think that using cron to send mail would not be allowed by default. I'm pretty sure you can do this with a python script or straight...

    Email config help

I see what you're saying now. I've never heard of that being specifically blocked, but I think that it would be to curb mass spam e-mails. You can change your entire mail exchanger to another site through cpanel, but I'm not sure about what you are doing.

    Email config help

You can use anything you want for your mail exchanger, as far as I know.

    Perl version on free host?

I found the query but I don't know enough about perl to run it :P #!/usr/bin/perl # Available under BSD License. # See url http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/how-can-i-find-out-perl-version/ $command=`perl -v`; $title = "Perl Version"; print "Content-type: text/html\n\n"; print...

    Stoli up..down..

The staff are working on a new "services up/down" page where you can check what is going on with the server. That should help clear up some confusion :)

    GD Image Support

I don't think having avatars on the site will need GD. I imagine your upload script uses GD to 1) make sure it's a real image file 2) make sure it's the right size 3) (maybe) convert the image to a standard format (ie jpeg), but probably not. If you know these things already, you can bypass...

    GD Image Support

There's definitely no GD on Stoli right now. Create a php file with this code: <?php phpinfo(); ?> and it will create a page that lists all modules compiled into the install of PHP, including GD. Just make sure that you do not keep the page somewhere on your site where it can easily be read by...

    VPS - webmin help

Yeah, simple would be the absolute last word I would use to describe it. I'm assuming you have apache installed and configured already. If I understand your question correctly, you have to mess around with the apache webadmin module: http://doxfer.com/Webmin/ApacheWebserver I think all you...

Secure Text - Copy Proof Text

How about an area for members only? Then, at least, you limit the exposure of your work.

    Stoli up..down..

As a positive note, Stoli has been getting better each day in my opinion. I think the maintenance on the servers is getting pretty close to done.

    GD Image Support

X10 plans on supporting GD, to the best of my knowledge. The PHP is being recompiled and GD will be included. I don't know what the ETA is on this.

    elgg installation problem

That's strange. There must be an error in the .htaccess. Can you post the code in your .htaccess?

He's not trying to make his site impenetrable, just secure against the casual plagiarist. It does state in both articles that there are easy workarounds.

    elgg installation problem

try renaming your .htaccess file to .htaccess~ and see if it works. I have a feeling something is awry here.

How can I open my site without having to append a /"foldername" to the URL

I can't think of any functionality you need from the htaccess. As long as you didn't delete files other than those in the public_html, I don't think you could have done any damage.
