cpanel would be located at your url and port 2082, so if your url is mydomain.com you find cpanel at mydomain.com:2082 if you have forgotten password I do believe you can can request password reminder

you'd need to park the plane-insane.com domain as well, or put it to be your main domain in account panel. (I recommend park, because then you at least got a fall back should there be any problems during the process)

getting them based on cpanel might be true, but keeping them has everything to do with uptime and stability... I actually think that x10 would get a lot new users even without cpanel, when I signed up cpanel was NOT a major factor to the choice. My main reasons was there were fairly good space...

all scripts I've encountered has that as part of the setup and initial connect... but it is possible it could be done using mysql_select_db as well

try without the ftp in the beginning of your domain, I've always used the domain as it is without the ftp, in your case that means using: itlook.x10hosting.com as address

cpanel can be accessible while website is not (if apache is down for instance) so just checking if you can reach cpanel doesn't really cover it. Not sure where you can check the services, other then I think you can check in the irc channel, at least there's a bot there for it, just don't know...
