I also know how much of a resource hog McAfee is. I was working on a Windows Vista laptop today with an expired version of McAfee Security Center. The computer was running very slow until I uninstalled it. Vista's security stuff kicked on shortly afterwards, Windows Defender came alive, and I installed Avast! Anti-Virus for them. You should've seen the performance difference.

Also, I thought I'd add something. If you don't trust free AV's and want a nice suite without having to pay, you can go to the ZoneAlarm (and last I checked, Norton as well) and download beta versions of upcoming suites which you can use for 60 days, uninstall and then replace with a newer beta. That's how I tried Norton 360 and ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite.

Currently i think
utilising less resources, small download package of 15-20 mb
good protection without slowing down pc, while playing games

over all better than others,
Edit:
Eset NOD32 is the one

Well I use Avast, and then I also run ZoneAlarm for my firewall and Ad-aware to keep off those malware.

Currently I'm running AVG + Comodo, I've installed other free AV's like Avast, Avira as well as Kaspersky, they are all good. Used to have zonealarm but it hogs so much resources that it became unusable on my old machine while Comodo is very light weight.

For spyware etc, I have spybot + Hijack This, but Hijack This is too powerful and i wouldn't recommend it just anyone.

any preferences for fire walls
I read zone alarm..
I'm thinking about kasperskys
complete protection but I'm afraid to
be taken hostage ...

I got an old lappy and I need something
light that won't conflict with kasperskys anti-virus

suggestions welcome..

NOD32 :D mainly cause its light weight, simple and very powerful,

used to use AVG, but stopped using it as its performance started to slip...

Ditto. I began using NOD32 for the same reasons as you did, and I found out as time passed, I never got infected again. I have been using NOD32 for over 2 years and have been virus free ever since  Every other Anti virus program has let me down in one way or another.

NAV 2008 is the best. I don't know why many hate it so much. I support NORTON.
