Until you receive the "Account Created" email there is a large chance your site doesnt work as until then it hasnt finished adding all the parts to your account. Once you do, it can still take a little time if you dont see a welcome page for your website.

smtp issues wouldnt stop you seeing mail, only sending. If you're having pop3 issues as well that makes it very odd. Can you please try using standard smtp not ssl?
